How to get free esri location api key ( POI place )
If you want to get ESRI POI, you have to have a location key
Step 1.
location api key is different from traditional arcgis developer key.
location key is new release winter 2024 with esri location platform
developer key, you can create one in your arcgis online subscription, however, you can not create a location key in arcgis online subscription.
You arcgis online account has nothing to do with location platform, has nothing to do with location key.
You must understand, location platform is completely seperate from Arcgis online platform.
You need additional location account to create a location key.
Step 2.

Warning: never use your traditional arcgis online account to login location platform
otherwise, you will be redirect to arcgis online home page, (leaving location platform)
Do not click this button, because it make you think your portal is arcgis online portal, you are miss leading to use your arcgis online account and password, then you will never get into location platform. This is bug, once you use your arcgis online account login success, you will be in dead end loop in arcgis online home page. I already report it to ESRI, expecting them to fix this. This problem is the biggest issue of all, due to if you can't login to location platform, you can not do anything about it. Location platform born 2025, very new, not surprise to have this problem.
Step 3.
If you insist click this button, you must use your location account (not arcgis account) to sign in.
You must understand how browser works, browser only allow you to sign in single account for the same website.
All tabs is sync when sign in to single account for the same website.
That means, if you sign in arcgis online in one tab, all tab will be sync to sign-in status. At this moment, all tab has be automatically logout from location account.
Browser does not allow you to login both arcgis online account and location account at same time !
You login one account, you will be logout the other account.
You can have multiple tab login same location account,
But you can not have 1 tab login location account, another tab login arcgis online account. That is not possible.
I recommend you click this sign in button up here, because this is remind you this is location platform, don't use arcgis online account to login
